Travel Day Three......Hershey!

You can tell you are in Hershey, even the street light's are shapped like Hershey's Kisses....can you see the silver kiss street lamp?

These have the silver wrappers off so you can see the chocolate kiss.....hehehehe.

We arrived in Hershey PA this morning and headed to the car show/swap meet. Below is a copy of the program, it's 126 pages long. So let me explain how big this car show is... There are 11 different fields covering 9 1/2 miles with thousands of vendors in 715 different categories with car stuff for sell and used parts. Then there is 2 miles butt to butt of show cars to see. Today we walked for over 8 hours and only covered 1/2 of one of the 11 fields. OMG! We are both exhausted. But my boy is having a blast.

Here we go shopping......We brought a wagon with us to carry our finds.

We started out at 8:00 a.m. And Roger quickly found some old oil bottles at a great price...I spent the rest of the afternoon guarding them as every man who passed our cart was offering Roger seven and eight times what we paid for them...glad he got such a great deal.

My baby...shopping.

Now this guy is desperate for parts. He is wearing a sign around his neck saying "i need steudebaker parts, any part". I also saw two kids about 10 years old with a large wagon both were wearing signs "let me be your parts hauler, we're for rent". They were hauling all kinds of parts for people. Young entrepreaneurs.

Rows, rows and oh my gosh more rows of stuff.

Look at the antique motorized tandum bicycle. Now that is my kind of bicycle.

Gurading the stash!

Automobile literature is a big deal. We found an owners manual for a 1928 Chandler, but we have a manual for our 1929.

This is my idea of a golf cart....sure wish I could have rented this sucker for the week! This thing was sharp.

Oh my goodness, another table of guages.

My baby looking, looking and more looking.

Another great find was 1929 auto tags.

I found the ONE non auto related vendor. She had vintage jewelry and some shade..hehehe.

This is a motor-meter for the Chandler. A great find.

Our club is The Chandler-Cleveland Automobile Club and I did find some ads on the Cleveland cars.

I did find some literature on the Chandler automobiles. These are sales fliers from 1928 & 1929. A good find.

Roger's new t-shirt.

Bins, bins and more bins of car parts, screws etc.

This is the beginning of what they call the car coral, the show cars for judging.

One of the antique cars scattered amoung the vendors.

See the roller coaster in the background?

More cool cars.

Beautiful autos.

We are back at the hotel now, a hot shower and a great meal....now to relax and get ready to do it all over again tomorrow. We hope to be able to get to the Antique Automobile club of America Museum?
Until later..happy quilting,

Travel Day Two

Today we left our beautiful spot in the Shenandoah Valley and headed further north toward amish country. Our goal today is to get to Intercourse, Pennsylvania.

Our first stop was at Ragtime Quilts in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

This was a quaint little shop which had lots of fabrics and sewing supplies. Of course I came out with a few goodies.

I was able to find Nancy Zieman's The Art Of Landscape Quilting book. It should be a good read for the drive home.

Next we headed across town to the Virginia Quilt Museum.

The museum was wonderful. So many beautiful quilts on display in all three levels of the historic house. They had a special display of small quilts that they were doing a silent auction on to raise money for the museum. They were gorgeous. Wish I could have taken pictures to show you all of the beautiful quilts.

All of the exhibit quilts were gorgeous. Some from the civil war and they even had hand written letters between a husband in the war and his wife at home. Very touching.

One of the civil war quilts was english paper pieced hexagons and the quilter listed everyone who had shared fabrics with her to make the quilt. It was great to see that the technique we are still using was used hundreds of years ago and carried such sweet memories for the quilt maker. How wonderful that she documented so well. A reminder for us how important it is to document our own quilts.

Of course I did not leave there empty handed.

I also picked up some other goodies that I can't show yet.

When leaving the museum we spotted the farmer's market and walked over before leaving Harrisonburg.

I picked up a mahogany hand carved mortel and pestle. Beautiful.

We then headed for Pennsylvania. Beautiful country with spectacular views.

We arrived in Intercourse, Pa this afternoon. Our first stop was Zook's Fabrics

Here's soem fabric......

Fabric......

And more fabric everywhere........this place rivals Mary Jo's.

And the damage is..........I'm not telling...but another 12 yards of fabric have found a new home.

Some of my new stash.

Next was the Kitchen Kettle Village and the Village Quilt Shop.

I picked up a new back pack and wallet purse. So many shops would not let you take pictures...bummer dudes!

Tonight we did some walking in town, only problem is that in the amish villages the shops and stores are all closed by 5 pm. But it was a wonderful evening for a walk.

Now off to our room to rest up for another day of fun. Tomorrow Hershey here we come!

Happy quilting...

Travel Day One

Our first stop was in Fancy Gap Virginia at the pottery &fabric outlet. What fun. 17 yards of fabric later we were off again.

Our next stop was in Lynchburg Virginia at Quilted Expressions....they have a wonderful quilt shop with over 4,000 bolts of fabric and tons of sample quilts hanging.

See all of the beautiful samples hanging.

Whisker's must have hidden in the suitcase.".there were holes ripped in the quilt, so cute.

Yes I got the Mary Kay Mouton book.

Next we headed for our hotel for the night, but at a pit stop I noticed this little fellow. Isn't he precious.

Our hotel for the night is The Village Inn in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. Beautiful scenery around every turn. It's dark now so I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Our plan tomorrow morning is to visit the Virginia Quilt Museum.
Happy Quilting,

Quilt Show

I can't believe that another quilt show has ended. What a talented group of ladies in my guild.
I won my first Blue Ribbons today. I'm tickled pink. My first one was for the quilt made for my sweet friend Kim who is battling her third occurrence of breast cancer. she loves kitties so it is named Kim's Kozy Kittens. My bee girls helped me by providing fabric from their stashes and Suzanne pieced the double kitties for me and some of the single kitties. We had a blast making the cat blocks. What a special thing to earn a ribbon on this labor of love.

My second blue ribbon was for my poster round robin quilt. We did the round robin in 2008. I almost threw this quilt in pieces in the trash, but my bee girls convinced me to finish it. I did some of my first thread painting on this quilt and a lot of quilting.

My bee girls earned a lot of ribbons today....what a talented group. So glad that I have such a wonderful group of ladies.

I think I have finally figured out how to post from my IPAD, so hopefully I can keep my blog more up to date.

Have a great evening quilting

October First......Nimble Thimbles Quilt Show

Today is the first day of October and the first day of our quilt show.  Beautiful quilts on display.  It has been a crisp autumn day today.  So surprised at how fast it has cooled off.
Below is myself and my oldest granddaughter Haley, she will be 17 in January and look how tall she already is.  Beautiful young lady.
Below is Roger and Roger III, oldest grandson who will be 18 in October.  He is now 6 foot tall.  Wonderful young man.  It amazes me how quickly time has passed and how fast they have grown.  Seems like just yesterday they were each born.

Tomorrow we find out who won ribbons at the show.  Can't wait.
Happy Quilting,
Shelia
